Much like the Ascot scene in My Fair Lady, the venerated Flemington Racecourse was awash in black and white. The roses for this racecourse is famed for, were outshone, from the throng of beautifully clad gents and fillies who’d come to witness the running of their 2015 Derby. The planet’s famous designers, celebrities, actors, socialites, media personalities, models, racing aficionados and journalists pondered for weeks concerning the last sartorial choice in which they would appear.
Connected: The Ideal Street Style From Derby Day 2015
From the gilded marquees of this Birdcage Enclosure, in which ‘Titans of Industry’ like Lexus, Emirates, Swisse, Myer, Peter Rowland and Lavazza distribute grandeur of hospitality, the scene has been set for a dazzling parade of nice fashion. Entree to the exclusive enclave of this birdcage marquees is highly prized and those blessed to be invited, watch sumptuousness of decor by leaders in the design world, cut flowers from entire subjects, unsurpassed food designers and made by world famous chefs. Needless to say whilst enjoying libations and air-kissing the day away, the fashion pundits including TheTrendSpotter team kept a close watch on the unfurling series of high fashion.
In a significant coup, hats and crowns had made a comeback and were the order of the day. For the most part, the race-going damsels had chosen for simpler silhouettes, with hemlines that sat below the knee. This year also witnessed a tendency for lace and sheer for also a favouring and block colours.
The menfolk were not to be outdone and like proud magpies, strutted in well cut and ordered suits with many opting for three-piece variations and shades of grey. Stamping individuality, many’d also chosen to mix and match the various elements of the garments, playing with manufacture, pattern and texture. Ties and pocket squares behaved as tasteful vases and people that wore hats had carefully chosen for either a trilby or fedora in nice straw to compliment their outfit.
Derby Day seen a restrained elegance and also a nod to the time honoured tradition of race wear. With three more days of exhilarating racing to come advantage of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, stay tuned as Dasha Gold and Colin Gold along with TheTrendSpotter team deliver you all of the exciting news and protection from Flemington.
